Last week, I posted an entry about Abby’s health, and I just wanted to give a quick update. I have some good news, and a litte bad news…
Let’s start with the good news first! Abby’s feedings/GI issues seem to be improving since that post. She hasn’t had anymore vomiting, and her feedings have increased. She also had her swallow study, and she passed! The speech therapist said she was blocking her airway perfectly, for both formula and solids. So, we have started solids again! Even though we are starting to see improvement in this area, we are still going to meet with a few specialists. She will be having an Upper GI performed next week, along with a G-Tube evaluation. We didn’t expect the appointment for the G-Tube eval to be scheduled so soon, so it freaked us out a little bit! As I said in that last entry, we are somewhat hesitant about getting a feeding tube. However, this is just to discuss it. Plus, the Upper GI will be helpful, as it will show if Abby is having any trouble with reflux, her anatomy, etc.
Now, for the bad news…Over the weekend and the past few days, we had some rough nights with Abby’s sleep. We were pretty much functioning with little to no sleep. This is not good! We’ve had trouble with Abby’s sleep habits since we brought her home from the hospital, but recently, it got really bad, really fast. If you remember from earlier posts, she would stay up for almost two days straight, and then crash for a day! We ended up using Melatonin to help her sleep, and this helped some. However, we think the Melatonin has started to lose it’s effectiveness. So, we are now trying a new medication to help her sleep. It is supposed to help control her high tone and muscle movements, so she can be more comfortable, while sleeping. Let’s hope this medicine helps!! She needs her rest, and so do we!
I will continue to keep everyone updated! Hopefully, I will have more good news to report, and less bad news! The girls have to get their second round of the seasonal flu shot, so I hope this doesn’t get them off track again!
